RockNRolla Review

RockNRolla is Guy Ritchie's latest gangster film, and it is utterly fantastic. Guy Ritchie is at his finest and back on form after some slips I won't even mention (and no I'm not talking about his marriage to & now subsequent divorce from Madonna.) if you liked "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels" & "Snatch" you will LOVE RockNRolla. The film is fun, fast paced and frenetic in all the necessary places. It also stars sooooooo many awesomely talented people, but I'll try to only mention a few that really stood out in this incredibly talented and down right attractive ensemble.
Mark Strong, plays "Archie, formerly Archibald," the narrator (& better version of the role Jason Statham usually fills) for the opening of the film and "Number 2" to Tom Wilkinson's reigning London Gangster/Real Estate hustler in the film. Gerard Butler (possibly the hottest Dracula ever) and Idris Elba (I still miss Stringer Bell) are a truly winning...ok they're actually a pair of doltish ex-cons who end up in Wilkinson's "pocket" for some money they owe him, but are fantastic together, and part of a group of ex-cons who operate out of a back room with an ongoing card game called "The Wild Bunch." The plot like all of Guy's movies is very involved and includes a Bad but polite-Russian Billionaire, his bored and beautiful accountant played by Thandie Newton and the eponymous Rock'N'Rolla of the film, Johnny Quid, a drug addicted Rock Star who you soon learn has once again been reported dead (though it turns out to be the 3rd time in eighteen months.) Toby Kebbel steals the film as Johnny, with a hilarious and disturbing performance that's reminiscent yet more powerful than the protaganist of "Lock Stock," Nick Moran, and Brad Pitt in Snatch, but not as over the top. While Toby is possibly the best thing in the movie, I must note Gerard and Thandie's chemistry is electric and hilarious, the party scene is worth sitting through the movie itself, just to see the two of them not be sexy, which is a pretty shocking and entertaining feet. I also have to mention that Jeremy Piven and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges as well as the new "Bond" girl Gemma Arterton have small, but solid roles in the film too. Go see this film is all I can say you'll certainly be entertained.
My rating: 8.6/10.

Live from New York, Ben Affleck ruins my Saturday night

Live-ish Blogging of SNL

Holy jeebs McCain and Fey hawking for "QVC"!

What the fudge is Ben Affleck doing hosting? His next project "He's just not that into You," doesn't come out til February 2009.

so this skectch mocking "The View," could stand a chance, but these women are so nuts they're hilarious so who knows how this sketch will turn out. Fred Armisen's Joy Behar is divine,& I kinda want to punch Kristen Wiig and the new girl playing "Jennifer Aniston" in the face, so i guess they're doing a good job, since that's kind of how i feel about both those women.[and no i'm not advocating girl-on girl violence, i'm just not a fan of either one of them.] Ben as Alec Baldwin, yay! [30 seconds pass] Ben as Alec Baldwin, boo! very, very bad.
Wow this sketch is dying very quickly. & as I type Ben has broke character & started to laugh.

ok so maybe this "Countdown with Keith Olberman" sketch stands a chance. Keenan is going to kill this sketch. As someone who catches part of "Countdown" almost every other night, Ben's playing him a little too seriously. Keith is absurd, but jnows he's
Ok Ben cracked two & a half times during this sketch alone.
Though he killed it, in the end when he blew up over being rejected by a Co-op board.
Ok make that 3 and a half.

That's it, I'm just watching this ep now just to see how many times Ben can't keep it together and starts laughing.

November 15, Paul Rudd will host, with musical guest Beyonce. that should be promising.
Ugh Valkyrie trailer. This looks worse than Pearl Harbor... Hey Ben Affleck starred in that (& Alec Baldwin was in it too.)

This is officially the Kristen Wiig show. Ben was great as the creepy white ghetto UPS delivery guy. And he almost cracked. The count is up to 4.

Jason Sudeikis why don't we see more of you? You were so great on 30 Rock as Floyd. Giraffes! GIRAFFE! This basically a a digital short without Andy Samberg. the next time i'm in NY, I'm totally going to the Staten Island Zoo.

I don't really watch American Idol, but I did for David Cook, and watching him perform is not helping me to remember why. He sounds a bit pitchy dawg & I'm not feeling this song at all. So much so I fast forwarded through the 2nd half of the song.

The real reason I tuned in tonight was to watch Seth Meyers work the desk solo during Weekend Update. Now that Amy has had her baby, he'll be going at it alone. While I'll miss Amy terribly, she deserves/needs this break, and I'm as giddy as a a diabetic on Splenda to have some 1 on 1 with Seth...& apparently John McCain. Isn't it way past his bed time? He IS a Grandpa!

I love when Seth gets excited and just keeps smiling & nodding, so he doesn't put his foot in his mouth. Phil Spectors hair IS insanity. Entourage is pretty douchey lately. Hey the 1st Will Forte appearance of the night. Will and Fred are always great together. but most importantly, let us all praise Darrel Hammond.

Bill Hader you are beautiful (and I mean deathly pale, tall, awkward and hilarious) he kind of looks like a vampire, and should totally do a cameo on "True Blood" next season. oh and this Zolinski Brothers sketch is totally/maybe a Wachowski brothers knock.

Ok David Cook's 2nd song was sooo much better. Wtf he should have done this 1st. Whatever its not like Ill be listening to the radio for either anyway. Ok and now I know why this dude won American Idol and he was pitch perfect. Seriously idk who told him to open with that 1st single, but they should be fired. Oh and "his band" is tight.

I have a secret obsession with Germany and this Bieroff Brothers sketch is pretty great considering how weak this episode was.

Wow this episode was kind of atrocious, I should have gone and seen RockNRolla at 12:40am like i intended.

When I grow up I want to go to Comic-Con

...because it's probably one of the coolest experiences a nerd like me could have. so i've posted about "Watchmen" and "RockNRolla,"so imagine my "surprise" when the casts of both were at Comic-Con this past weekend. now please enjoy some "celebrity portriats" (courtesy of EW) of what i'm super excited for below.
"Watchmen" cast Jackie Earle Haley; Malin Ackerman; Jeffrey Dean Morgan;(Director) Zack Snyder; Matthew Goode; Carla Gugino; Billy Crudup; Patrick Wilson

"Watchmen"Artist Allan Gibbons & (Director) Zack Snyder

Gerard Butler & (Director) Guy Ritchie (who were there to plug Rock N Rolla)

Emily Blunt & Benicio Del Toro

i've had a crush on Benicio since "The Usual Suspects," though i've been endearingly referring to him as "Benicio the Dog Faced Boy" since he got all fat and hairy around the time "The Way of The Gun" (yeah i just mentioned THAT movie.) lo and behold he's playing "The Wolf Man."

Some guy named Hugh Jackman & One of the Gods of comics himself Mr. Stan Lee!

"Wolverine" (looking like he's about to go bezerker?)

Samuel L. Jackson isn't just in "Afro Samurai" he is a[n honorary] Samurai

"The Punisher" Ray Stevenson

you may recognize this handsome and talented man from the HBO series "Rome." well he's also the new "Punisher" & about to kick the dust of the series after Thomas Jane (who i do like) got suckered into making that POS with John Travolta.
