fashion week favorites - Marc Jacobs

i must confess i love Marc Jacobs! not necessarily his clothes, which are very beautiful, but the man himself. since the moment i saw his bespeckled face and long hair, sometime around the mid 90's when he brought high end grunge to the runway. than a few years ago he underwent a makeover that rivaled Tai's in "Clueless" that unleashed the stone fox, the world has most recently encountered.
while the man is clearly a sexy beast, with a great sense of humor, i think he is one of THE most important artists of our time, because his work isn't confined simply to the medium of fashion, but he has been able to transcend that, and also be known as a cultural icon. he's been described as his generation's Andy Warhol and i completely agree. yes he is an artist, but he is also a business man, and has been able to create and run multiple artisitic empires, that equate to Andy's "Factory." while i'm just bananas about the man himself, his design aesthetic - at least for his eponymous collection- is not totally in tune with my personal style, while coincidentally i'm just mad for what he creates for Marc by Marc and Louis Vuitton.

in order for me to best describe Marc's Spring 2009 collection, i must borrow from Project Runway judge "and top America Designer Michael Kors," and just say for each model "that's a lotta look!" but they sure look beautiful. the detail, as always, is impeccable. even though each look has a lot of layering, i really like the individuality of the pieces because most people would never, and should never, wear the look exactly like it came off the runway. but MJ's looks are just so put together and fun, you cannot even imagine where people would go wearing them, but wish you actually knew of that place and hope it will exists one day.
