Under Construction

...literally

"Life is so fucking good I can taste it in my spit."

With the Quantum of Solace release just a week away, I've been thinking about the movie I'm convinced got Daniel Craig the job (not even the shot, but the job itself) as James Bond, "Layer Cake," & the title of this post is one of my favorite lines in the film, which was adapted from J.J. Connely's acclaimed novel. its a phenomenal well crafted, gangster film directed by Matthew Vaughn who produced "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels" & "Snatch." I watched it again recently to tie my over til next weekend, and forgot how the film is full of amazing British talent, like Michael Gambon, Kennth Cranham, Dexter Fletcher, Ben Wishaw, oh and Sienna Miller is in it too. [I actually heart Sienna, yes she's beautiful and always surrounded by scandal, but sometimes she actually acts in movies and is [retty brilliant in them, like "Interview" and "Factory Girl".]
so if you haven't seen Layer Cake and you're a fan of Daniel Craig, gangster films or great movies in general, definitely check it out. you can watch the first 7 minutes below to get a taste.

trailer trash- Twilight

so i haven't been posting as much this week, because i, like most people, was following the Election and subsequent win of President Elect Barack Obama. though the main reason to be perfectly and completely honest as to why i haven't been posting on the regular (thursday's were pre-drafted) is that i've been obsessively reading Stephanie Meyer's vampire-romance "Twilight." the series has sold over 17 million copies world wide and spawned a fan base that's reminiscent of that of Harry Potter.

coincidentally the film stars Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory in HP "Goblet of Fire," and the legitmately talented Kristin Stewart (who you may have caught in "Panic Room" when she was 11, or more recently in "Into The Wild,") as Edward Cullen the "unbelivably beautiful vampire" who falls in love the "incredibly clumsy human" Bella Swan. when i first saw the trailer for the film a few months ago, i was unimpressed and wondered "WTF is this POS." [which i might add is also how i felt the first time i saw the trailer for "The Matrix"...& ultimately ended up seeing 3 times in theaters.] but then Ms. Kelly lent me her copy of Twilight and i wasn't able to put it down to the point where i would have to remind myself to eat during my lunch break rather than just sit and read. the movie is directed by the eternally cool and incredibly talented Catherine Hardwicke, who also directed the heart-breaking and gut-wrenching drama "Thirteen" and "Lords of Dogtown." when "Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince" got moved from November 21st to next summer, Twilght's release was pushed forward to occupy that date and has created a frenzy and coverage like i have never seen before. i'm just hoping the film does this beloved book justice.

Homecoming part 1

trailer trash - The Spirit

The Spirit [actual site] is based on Will Eisner's comic-book series of the same name. the film is co-written and directed by the genius that is Frank Miller (the guy who did Sin City,) and stars Gabriel Macht as The Spirit, a rookie cop who was murdered, and returns from the dead to protect Central City (though to be honest it's not too clear in the trailer.) oh yeah, and Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes and Samuel L. Jackson are also in the film, that has an overwhelming film noir aspect to it. it comes out Christmas Day and hopefully won't suck, because it's keeping my distracted til "Watchmen" comes out on 3.6.09.

I ran into some nuts when I went to go pick up some Fro-Yo

I was minding my own business and leaving the Lutz frozen yogurt shop (the legit stuff not the crap Tasti Delight sells.) when I encountered a person jumping out of an SUV in a gorilla costume. Apparently they didn't get their money's worth this weekend.

suprisingly enough Seth Meyers was NOT eaten alive when he went on "The View"

well it’s all come full circle. Seth Meyers was on “The View” today and the ladies had quite a few things to say to him since SNL spoofed the daytime talk show on Saturday. it first comes up around 3:55 and then in full at 5:00

it's Monday so it's time for another completely gratuitous Liev Schreiber post

they're just so darn cute this never gets old

trailer trash- sunshine cleaning

sunshine cleaning stars the luminous and adorable amy adams and the lovely emily blunt. it was THE indie darling of the Sundance Film Festival this past january and looks pretty cute

john mayer is a crazy SoB but a damn talented one

i try to post about John Mayer as little as possible, because while i find him incredibly talented and i legitimately enjoy his music, sadly there is always more focus on he's dating. and coincidentally it's always someone i wish would disappear off the face of the earth.with that said i have to give him props for the absurdity below, his ability to sing some Stevie acapella and gives props to the [hopefully] next President of the United States

oh my jesus...

Mad Men's Jon Hamm is "in talks" (i always loved that term) to do a multi-episode arc on 30 Rock as Liz Lemons (Tina Fey) love interest. I... JUST...DIED...AND WENT TO HEAVEN! i'm a Fey-natic and have tried to keep it in check and focus all that lurve on Mad Men since they average less than 5 million viewers each ep. now that the 2nd season is over i intend to buy season 1 to keep myself occupied until 24 starts, because before there was Don Draper, Jack Bauer took up most of the space in my heart when it came to strong, handsome and utterly ridiculous men. and by the by, 30 Rock is as good as ever, and i hope that Will Arnett sticks around, even though he's kind of the villain.

Live from New York, Ben Affleck ruins my Saturday night

Live-ish Blogging of SNL

Holy jeebs McCain and Fey hawking for "QVC"!

What the fudge is Ben Affleck doing hosting? His next project "He's just not that into You," doesn't come out til February 2009.

so this skectch mocking "The View," could stand a chance, but these women are so nuts they're hilarious so who knows how this sketch will turn out. Fred Armisen's Joy Behar is divine,& I kinda want to punch Kristen Wiig and the new girl playing "Jennifer Aniston" in the face, so i guess they're doing a good job, since that's kind of how i feel about both those women.[and no i'm not advocating girl-on girl violence, i'm just not a fan of either one of them.] Ben as Alec Baldwin, yay! [30 seconds pass] Ben as Alec Baldwin, boo! very, very bad.
Wow this sketch is dying very quickly. & as I type Ben has broke character & started to laugh.

ok so maybe this "Countdown with Keith Olberman" sketch stands a chance. Keenan is going to kill this sketch. As someone who catches part of "Countdown" almost every other night, Ben's playing him a little too seriously. Keith is absurd, but jnows he's
Ok Ben cracked two & a half times during this sketch alone.
Though he killed it, in the end when he blew up over being rejected by a Co-op board.
Ok make that 3 and a half.

That's it, I'm just watching this ep now just to see how many times Ben can't keep it together and starts laughing.

November 15, Paul Rudd will host, with musical guest Beyonce. that should be promising.
Ugh Valkyrie trailer. This looks worse than Pearl Harbor... Hey Ben Affleck starred in that (& Alec Baldwin was in it too.)

This is officially the Kristen Wiig show. Ben was great as the creepy white ghetto UPS delivery guy. And he almost cracked. The count is up to 4.

Jason Sudeikis why don't we see more of you? You were so great on 30 Rock as Floyd. Giraffes! GIRAFFE! This basically a a digital short without Andy Samberg. the next time i'm in NY, I'm totally going to the Staten Island Zoo.

I don't really watch American Idol, but I did for David Cook, and watching him perform is not helping me to remember why. He sounds a bit pitchy dawg & I'm not feeling this song at all. So much so I fast forwarded through the 2nd half of the song.

The real reason I tuned in tonight was to watch Seth Meyers work the desk solo during Weekend Update. Now that Amy has had her baby, he'll be going at it alone. While I'll miss Amy terribly, she deserves/needs this break, and I'm as giddy as a a diabetic on Splenda to have some 1 on 1 with Seth...& apparently John McCain. Isn't it way past his bed time? He IS a Grandpa!

I love when Seth gets excited and just keeps smiling & nodding, so he doesn't put his foot in his mouth. Phil Spectors hair IS insanity. Entourage is pretty douchey lately. Hey the 1st Will Forte appearance of the night. Will and Fred are always great together. but most importantly, let us all praise Darrel Hammond.

Bill Hader you are beautiful (and I mean deathly pale, tall, awkward and hilarious) he kind of looks like a vampire, and should totally do a cameo on "True Blood" next season. oh and this Zolinski Brothers sketch is totally/maybe a Wachowski brothers knock.

Ok David Cook's 2nd song was sooo much better. Wtf he should have done this 1st. Whatever its not like Ill be listening to the radio for either anyway. Ok and now I know why this dude won American Idol and he was pitch perfect. Seriously idk who told him to open with that 1st single, but they should be fired. Oh and "his band" is tight.

I have a secret obsession with Germany and this Bieroff Brothers sketch is pretty great considering how weak this episode was.

Wow this episode was kind of atrocious, I should have gone and seen RockNRolla at 12:40am like i intended.
