I kinda love/hate I'm standing next to the only other Black guy while waiting to vote

Are you 2 together? Was what some dude asked me before he handed me some pro-McCain propaganda. I understand its his 1st amendment right to be here, but I don't have to like him/not be annoyed by his assumptions

trailer trash - Notorious

here's the trailer for the Notorious B.I.G biopic, Notorious

I love Asian Supermarkets

...they always have the most peculiar, yet interesting products that Western society just wouldn't imagine/understand how to cook with. so i stopped by the Asian Market down the street from my house the other day to pick up some ingredients to make a Caramelized Black Pepper Chicken. while searching for fish sauce and rice vinegar i came across these offerings.

surprisingly enough i'm not too excited for Halloween this year...

Last Halloween I was Cleopatra, i even had my own sickly looking slave boy who followed me around in gold pants "for effect,"(and no that is not a picture of him above.) so I think I could play her in the live-action 3D musical Steven Soderbergh is working on, instead of Catherine Zeta-Jones.
this year i'm still undecided on what to do/who to be, though Josephine Baker, Diana Ross in "Mahogany," and Grace Jones are all very high on the list, mainly so i can wear my own clothes. though it may seem lame, i prefer "dressing up" regulary and just haven't been totally inspired by a costume or concept yet enough to succumb to falling into line with everyone else.

Fashion meets Film

Fashion designer Tom Ford will be making his directorial debut with "A Single Man" which is based on Christopher Ishwood's novel. Since the story takes place in the 1960's Tom has hired the the Emmy Award winning production team from "Mad Men" to best execute his vision.
who knows how tom will do as a director, but at least this project is going to look divine.

trailer trash- Synecdoche, New York... (also known as the new Charlie Kaufman movie that sucks)

synecdoche, new york is the new charlie kaufman movie, starring philip seymour hoffman, catherine keener, michelle williams, hope davis and is mr. kaufman's directorial debut. it's apparently super meta, because there's a play within the movie, and the people in the play are actually actors playing real people who in turn are involved with the play and people in hoffman's characters life, because the play about his life but the play becomes his life, and there's no audience... or something like that.

Owen Glieberman, one of the critics i most agree with/respect, of Entertainment Weekly gave it a D+ and said:

I gave up making heads or tails of Synecdoche, New York, but I did get one
message: The compulsion to stand outside of one's life and observe it to this
degree isn't the mechanism of art — it's the structure of psychosis.
anyway, here's the trailer i'll probably check this out on video...or not at all.

not so risky business

utterly preposterous, ridiculous and silly...which is why i had to share

MACGRUBER: Father and Son

possibly one of my all time favorites

it's down to "The Wire"

leave it to the greatest show ever created to still be relevant during this political season, even after it's gone off the air

Presidential B-Boy Battle

i lifted this straight Frank151.com it's total schlock but mildly entertaining. it certainly takes the edge of the intense political discourse that's been going on over the past 18 months.

Choke Review

i saw Choke over 2 weeks ago and just never got around to writing a review. it's not that i wasn't desperate to share how great the movie was, just other things came up and i kind of wanted to keep this brilliant little gem to myself. i was inducted into the Cult of Palahniuck a decade ago when Fight Club was released. both the film and the novel changed my life, in ways i won't go into to detail but i will say for the better. now that i'm a little older and pretend to be a lot wiser, Choke has had a similar effect on me that Fight Club and magnifies that we're all kind of F-ed up. in Choke Palahniuck once again focuses on the affect dysfuntional relationships have on our entire lives, and how integral they are to finding our identity, true selves and the possibility of sharing that with another. with that out of the way, i have to say the movie was hilarious, Sam Rockwell was out of of this world, Kelly MacDonald was incadescent (as always,) and as we've learned from numerous Wes Anderson films Anjelica Huston is the best woman to play a mother caught up in the midst of mayhem. i also have to add that Clark Gregg did an excellent job as writer, director and co-star which is not an easy feat, while also making a great film that's only 90 minutes long, that also has an equally fantastic soundtrack. if you still have the chance to go see Choke, do so immediately, otherwise pre-order it on Netflix or Amazon, it's that good. My rating 8.4/10

The Faint Concert

after a long and fantastic day in the sun at the UM vs. Wake Forrest Homecoming game, i somehow managed to make it up to The Culture Room to see one of the best indie electronic-dance- rock groups on the planet, The Faint. the last time they played in town was 3 years ago at The Polish American Club and TV on the Radio opened for them, the sound system blew 3 seperate times and it took them over an hour to go on. even with all the setbacks and delays that was one of the best shows i've ever seen in my life. while i was beyond exhausted and somewhat zombie like for most of the evening the boys from Nebraska put on an amazing show.

the Flaming Lips go Universal...sort of

you may have seen these ads non stop during the Olympics, where NBC stars talk about "chiming in." anyway NBC (which is owned by Universal) turns 75 this year and to commemorate that they got a bunch of bands to play their own version of the NBC chime (notes G, E & C.) Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive behind the scenes video with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips band you can check out, where Wayne talks about the bands penchant for doing odd projects. the coolest part if when he talks about and plays with his double neck guitar, because one of the necks is actually a Guitar Hero "guitar" attached to a noise modulator dubbed the "Chaos-a-lator." below is "do you realize," one of their most well known songs, and one of my favorite songs period.

Don Draper's Guide to Picking up Women

it's been less than 12 hours since the Mad Men Finale and i already desperately miss the show. in order to keep the spirit of the show in my life til it comes back, i'm going to take these tips Don Draper has come up with...and use them inversely to pick up men if necessary.

another completely gratuitous Liev Schreiber post

you're probably aware of my respect, love and infatuation with Liev Schreiber but this is just a blatantly gratutiously adorable post of him, his wifey and their baby

Jon Hamm rocks my world

Holy bejeebus his episode of SNL was everything I wanted it to be (which was basically for him to play Don Draper or a version of him in every sketch he's in) and more. I was so excited/desperate to see it I raced home after The Faint show to see it.

Congrats to Amy Poehler who wasn't on the show tonight because she was having her baby!
Speaking of babies, I want to have Seth Meyers'...in an alternate universe of course/ or in 5 years, for the time being i just be in his orbit. He's doing such a great job as head writer and am so proud of the material he's put out this year. The fact that he also has an incredibly talented ensemble to stage what he oversees helps of course, which is why alums like Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Chris Parnell and Maya Rudolph have come back.

I have to give a shout out to Will Forte because he never fails. He is amazingly brilliant and not just because he played a ROBOT TELEPHONE. And though Kristen Wiig was only in a few sketches she of course was divine.

I do have to quote from the show and share:
"Mmm I want me some Jon Hamm John Ham.

There's been a whole mess of fingers in Butts ever since... I can't wait to lick the crack in Butts."

Oh and this little band called Coldplay performed. A # of people have told me they're not into Coldplay because they think they're depressing, but I actually have always found their music incredibly powerful, really uplifting, beautiful and just plain fun because they're clearly enjoying themselves. Which may be part of the reason they got to play 3 songs over the common 2 every other band gets to do, & was totally evident when they closed the show with their 1st single "Yellow." Oh and at the very end of the song Chris Martin said "Barack Obama,"which I can only imagine was an endorsement of some sort, though he can't vote, but is clearly very very interested in the outcome.

All in all I thought it was a pretty fantastic show and possibly my most memorable episode.
