trailer trash- The Day The Earth Stood Still

"The Day The Earth Stood Still" is a remake of a 1951 sci-fi film with the same title, though at some point during the press tour someone is probably going to refer to it as a "re-imagining" of the original, so it doesn't seem like Hollywood is completely out of original ideas. i love sci-fi and jennifer connely. i'm willing to sit through most keanu reeves movies, no matter how preposterous they are, and he's actually one of the best people the could have cast to "play an alien." but the real reason behind me wanting to see this movie is "Mad Men's" Jon Hamm, though there's only 1 close up profile of him in the trailer, he still makes my heart flutter, though after watching it i realized his character probably dies...which sucks but i'm just happy to see him be cast in anything.

trailer trash- The Brothers Bloom

"The Brother's Bloom" is a crime drama romance comedy [yes i did just quadruple genrify it] written and directed by Rian Johnson, starring Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody. If you haven't seen "Brick" then this trailer may seem a bit pretentious, yet reminiscent of what would happen if Wes Anderson's and Guy Richie's cinematic aesthetic were to mate.

Mmm Novak Djokovic

Is playing right now and probably going to win. More updates later

if you don't know who Charlie Rose is...

you're an idiot. but it's cool A LOT of people have no clue who this brilliant man is, maybe because he's on PBS...ye i just typed PBS.
Mr. Rose is host of "Charlie Rose" which airs nightly, and is a round table discussion (literally) interview program. in the 15 years Charlie has been on the air he has interviewed a countless number of riveting guests including President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Bill Gates, Ben Stiller, Marc Jacobs, Lance Armstrong, the cast of "Garden State", Bjork, Kanye West, The Beastie Boys, Wes Anderson, Seth Rogen & Judd Apatow, Frank Gehry & Jean Nouvel , and the list goes on. i highly recommend watching this program if you care about anything happening in this world, but more importantly if you're interested in actually learning something about anything.

trailer trash - Burn After Reading

"Burn After Reading" is the Coen Brother's latest oeuvre, starring George Clooney, Richard Jenkins, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt, JK Simmons and Tilda Swinton. if you didn't already know, Frances won an Oscar for "Fargo," Clooney won one for "Syriana," Tilda did for "Michael Clayton," and the Brothers Coen for directing "No Country For Old Men." this movie looks hilarious and everyone in it is has fantastic comedic timing, i hope you enjoy the trailer as much as i do everytime i see it.

whitney roux reviews "The Brideshead Revisted"

last week during tropical storm faye, whit and i went to see "The Brideshead Revisted." it's the major motion picture adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's masterpiece, whittled down to 140 minutes. [there was an 8 hour mini-series of the novel that aired on PBS in the 80's starring Jeremy Irons, but i think i'll just watch that on my own and let you know how it turned out at some other point.] Whit thought:

"Within the walls of Oxford, boys become men. Their preppy style and befuddled jargon allows for cheery interactions, and flirtacious interludes. As the beginning setting of 'Brideshead Revisited' you know you are in for a story of english drama that would be told in tea rooms, while its american version would be shared in the locker room of a gay gym. Over all I found the film to have a slow pace, and the presentation of the homosexual tension is one that I have not found before. It was told in a way of class, and sophistication, without seeming over sexed. Getting to stare at Matthew Goode as the confused Charles, makes the seven dollars worth it, but the plot left something to be desired. The characters do not develop fully enough for my taste, and the "drama" is never really addressed. The problems seem to disappear as quickly as they came.Emma Thompson steals the show with her cold zealousness. I would recommend this film to those who are a fan of british cinema, or if you love akward homosexual tension between one good looking man and a pseudo alchy."

I usually don't add my 2 sheckels to others reviews, but as a former English major, an Anglophile and an admirer of Matthew Goode, i just have to add, it's a great film, that you will find yourself thinking about once it's over, but only to wonder what did the film leave out that would have made it better. it was definitely enjoyable, but incredibly dry and left me wanting more but not in the way most people would. My rating: 7.75/10

LEGO turns 30!

i absolutely loved LEGOs growing up and i kinda wish i could still play with or utilise them in a functional way in my life now. apparently Opening Ceremony, a really innovative clothing store, and the fashion line Band of Outsiders have teamed up to do and celebrate LEGO's birthday. Opening Ceremony has not only redesigned the inside of their LA store to fully incorporate LEGO in to the presentation of the merchandise, but Band of Outsiders has LEGO men modeling their clothes too. you can check out the site they created here, though i've posted some of my favorite LEGO related pics below.

trailer trash - Max Payne

i'll be honest, i know absolutely nothing about "Max Payne," except that it kinda looks like "Constantine" but not as good. and i can certainly tell you Mila Kunis sure as shit ain't no Rachel Weisz . maybe i'm not excited because i don't play the game, but just watching the trailer makes me want to actually re-watch Constantine (which happens to be on FX tonight at 7:30 PM & 10 PM,) mainly to swoon over Tilda Swinton's magnificence as the Angel Gabriel, but also to erase the memory of the crap fest that is "Street Kings," that I somehow watched with Karl and Nathan on Saturday night.

Why do I have a sinking suspicion its going to pour?

And I'm going to get caught in it again!

oops she did it again

it's really nice to know that Anna Wintour likes to wear the same thing over and over again, considering she's an icon in an industry that's dependent on what people desiring, coveting and ultimately purchasing new clothes. i guess she's really just trying to get her outfit's worth before, the next season rolls around and she has sport what's au currant.

terrible tuesdays

Everyone always complains about "a case of the Mondays,"but honestly I feel like the serotonin levels in my brain more Monday night than Sunday night. Maybe its just me but I'm not a fan and I don't think they're a fan of me either.

I kinda miss the absurdity of Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman

"Being John Malkovich" is on right now. Which is kind of making me excited for their latest endeavour "Synecdoche" starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Who knows what awesome insanity these 3 will come up with.
