I'm famous on the festival circuit....

Well at least I think so in my mind. While I'm currently in California, next weekend April 25, 2009 there will be a great local music festival at Viriginia Key Fishing Village (more commonly known as Jimbos,) called Swamp Stomp. There's going to be plenty of great local acts, like Juke, Tavern, Rachel Goodrich & Cleveland Jones, so I encourage you to check it out. Each year the event gets better and everyone always has a fantastic time. This year I was deemed head of the 'Hipsters' and will in charge of a Tug of War contest against "the hippies." Clearly the gentlemen who nominated me have NOT SEEN the Hipster Olympicsm which you can view below. I've got to thank Olivia for bringing this to my attention before Ultra because it was incredibly coincidental.

I'm not saying I'm gonna forfeit, but as hipsters say "Silver is the new gold...& empanadas are the new cupcakes."

Wet Hot American Summer in parts

I've heralded the brilliance of Wet Hot American Summer before, but thought I would finally just force this film upon you now that I know someone [who's even more obsessed than I am] took the time to post the whole movie in parts. So here'a little something to keep you occupied while I'm at Coachella since I probably won't be able to post as much as I'd like. Ladies and germs, prepare to laugh so hard it hurts.
[I recommend starting two parts at a time and pressing pause for the other for some continuity so you don't have to keep waiting for each part to load.]

I Love You Man Review

I'm gonna keep this short & sweet since I'm headed to the airport in a few hours. Caught this flick, errr about 2 weeks ago. It was cute and entertaining, but not phenomenal, on the same level as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," but more of a bromantic comedy; but nowhere near as hilarious as "Role Models." It's cute & an all around, funn comedy, but I have a feeling I'm going to like "Adventureland" a lot more.

My rating: 8/10

The drivers in this town are unfudging believable!

No wonder Miami's Drivers were voted the worst in the country. This dude was just chilling in the middle of the intersection, while I had a green light. What a punk.

Coachella - Set Times

The Coachella - Set Times are up & I already have a number of conflicting shows on the Friday, the day I'm most excited for.

Franz Ferdinand and Crystal Castles are playing at the exact the same time, White Lies (my new favorite band) start playing 15 minutes after The Ting Tings (who I missed at Ultra,) while Leonard Cohen's set overlaps with Ghostland Observatory. I guess I'll have to go to All Points West Festival to catch them, The Ting Tings & Crystal Castles, since I'm probably going to stay for all of FF & LC's sets.

Hoping to make it in time to catch Liars, but will am just hoping to make it to the venue for Paolo Nutini.

By Day 3 I'll probably have festival dimentia so I haven't really looked at the set times (or at Saturday's too thouroughly) but the game plan is be there for Lykke Li or bust, since she's THE act I (& probably thousands of others) are most pumped to see. Hopefully I'll be able to catch Friendly Fires too, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be better than they were 3 years ago, but I'm saving myself for a beautiful young woman from Sweden, PB & J and The Kills.

The Earth Rocks

Paul Rudd & Elmo just wanted to make sure that you knew too.

please take a moment to Rock the F out to - White Lies

White Lies are my new favorite band and I can't wait to see them on Friday at Coachella. The first time I heard their music was the same night I heard Panic Bomber's and can only speak highly of them both, though they sound nothing alike. They're a cross between Editors, Interpol and Joy Division, but definitely have a sense of humor & are willing to step outside their genre and cover Kanye West. They'll be touring all over the world this summer, so if you have the chance to check them out you should, or you can buy their debut album at your nearest Target for under 10 bucks.

Another crazy night at Dirty Hairy

Though I'll be headed to the coast first thing in the morning for a weekend of glorious music at the Coachella Music Festival Thursday morning, I'm still seriously considering checking out Holy Ghost at LIV on Wednesday night, because I can't get enough of "Hold On" & the video for "Superman" (both posted below.)
E-mail info@epoplife.com to get on the list, if you're interested.

Michael and Michael Have Issues

I love these Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. If you haven't seen Wet Hot American Summer, DO SO IMMEDIATELY. I can't wait to check their show Michael and Michael Have Issues when it premieres in July, until then here's the opening sequence from Wet Hot.

Obama eases Cuba travel restrictions - CNN.com

This took long enough, Obama eases Cuba travel restrictions - CNN.com but I'm glad it happened. Maybe people in this town will chill the F out and stop voting Republican, which was sooooooooooooooooooo stupid.

Beautiful enough to eat...

Just ran to Fresh Market for a snack & this positively gorgeous baby was in the checkout line ahead of me. She had the brightest smile, & kept offering me her doll, she was precious enough to eat! Surprisingly enough I was able to control myself which is pretty shocking, since I've been craving steak since I woke up & I've had the theme from "Rosemary's Baby" stuck in my head for the past hour. I think I'm gonna have to hit up Chilis or Applebees on my way home to satiate my hunger.

Curry Mondays

YUGA is a great Pan-Asian restaurant in Coral Gables I've been going to since college. Stephen and Abdul turned me onto it, and it just happens to be owned by the same people who own Izakaya, THE best sushi place in town. I've been taking advantage of YUGA's lunch special -their Red Curry Beef is to die for- for sometime now, but never noticed the acupuncture place down the street til now. I'm going to have to check it out once I have the chance, because the only thing that intrigues me more than Eastern cuisine is Eastern medicine.

Anderson Cooper 360: Blog Archive - Bo knows kibble « - Blogs from CNN.com

Pretty cute article I just came across Anderson Cooper 360: Blog Archive - Bo knows kibble « - Blogs from CNN.com

It's Monday

Time for another Liev Schreiber post, but this time it's a publicity still for X-Men Origins: Wolverine that opens on May 1st, so there's actually a reason for me to be giving Liev a shout out. I hope this film is good, I'm still very disappointed/confused about how Watchmen turned out, but still love a good comic book movie.

trailer trash - Moon

Praise an Almighty Power for giving the world Adam Smith, and I sure as F don't mean the father of modern economics. My dear friend, Mr. Smith, an absolutely darling young man not only shares my love of Keira Knightley, but also has absolute respect for the man, the myth, the legend, Sam Rockwell. Adam turned me on to Sam's latest, film Moon an independent sci-fi endeavor that looks enthralling.
