French genius Michel Gondry directs Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz (as a villain yet again,) in a big budget action film starring some guy named Seth Rogen... and it's in 3D. I'm sold!
I love a good crime drama, especially ones with a cast I know can pull off intense material and I know Ben Affleck (who also directed this movie,) Jeremy Renner (who I praised like mad last summer for the Hurt Locker) and Jon Hamm (a guy I've posted about once or twice) certainly can. If this movie is half as good as Affleck's directorial debut Gone Baby Gone, then it's going to be pretty phenomenal.
Based on the trailers alone for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, I was hesitant about seeing it, though I believed it had a great deal of potential considering Edgar Wright (the brilliant mind behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) was directing and the comic it was based on was rad. So I decided to take a chance and see this film the other night and must admit I was blown away by it's high energy and brilliance.
The film follows Scott Pilgrim (played by the King of Awkward Indie Boys Michael Cera) a bass player in Canada, who literally fights for the love of the new girl in town, Ramona Flowers by attempting to defeat her seven evil exes to win her heart. From the pitch perfect casting which included having The Fantastic Four'sHuman Torch, & Superman play Ramona's exes, to Kieran Culkin as Scott's gay roommate, and the always delightful Anna Kendrick as Scott's younger sister, the performances certainly deliver. There is not a dull moment in the entire film, and can best be described as a live-action graphic novel, that is part vintage video-game/psuedo rock opera or an "action romantic comedy" as Wikipedia described it. But it is so much more than both those descriptions and worth checking out. If you're still hesitant after watching the trailer, take my word for it, it's definitely worth seeing.
Winter's Bone heated up at The Sundance Film Festival this year and won the Grand Jury Prize & continued to garner even more buzz during the Cannes Film Festival over newcomer Jennifer Lawrence's performance. This movie may just look like another doom and gloom indie, but I can't wait to check it out.
I figured with the return of my first legitimate post in a while I'd double up and show Liev some love and supply you with a trailer for "SALT" (which you've probably already seen unless you've been living under a rock.) Now please enjoy Angelina in all her hotness & hopefully this won't be as ridiculous as "Wanted"
Amelia Earhart has captured our imaginations and has fascinated us for decades, so of course it was inevitable that a bid-budget Oscar bait movie would be made about her. I hope the movie is as fantastic as all the outfits.
I saw District 9 the weekend it opened and still find myself thinking about it. I found it incredibly original, riveting, action packed, and full of heart. So it was nice to see a film that lived up to all the hyped that surrounded it, as well as the expectations I set up for myself.
This looks preposterously, ridiculously entertaining and only makes me more excited for the return of Gossip Girl and Nip/Tuck, which will keep me from paying to see this movie (which I'll definitely watch a thousand times whenever it airs on HBO)
I remember first reading about District 9 on my flight back from Coachella in EW's Summer Movie Preview, and being immediately intrigued by the fact that independent film was an allegory for apartheid in South Africa, and just happened to be produced by some guy named Peter Jackson. With he movie opening Friday, it's the focus of the cover story for EW's latest issue,on newstands now. I really do hope this movie is as good as it's been built up to be, or at least really entertaining.
While I trust Peter Jackson's talent as a director and ability to adapt beloved literary material, I just don't know how The Lovely Bones is going to turn out on film. The book was so beautiful written I don't know if the cinematic medium can capture and provoke the same emotions. Either which way, I've heard that Saoirse Ronan's performance is so stellar it could garner her another Oscar nomination.
The first time I heard of this guy I figured he was Ivan Reitman's son,which he is. But that Junowas just a rehashed version of Junior...which it basically was
'Juno' helmer Jason Reitman is hanging a new shingle: Right of Way Films. The West Hollywood-based outfit has a development partnership with Indian Paintbrush, the financing and production company headed by billionaire Steven Rales... The plan is for Right of Way to develop and package projects inhouse. Reitman says the films are intended to be directing vehicles for him, but some could become producing projects. On the slate are new scripts by Jenny Lumet and the Duplass brothers...Reitman is currently in post production on his latest film, "Up in the Air," which he adapted, directed and produced. The Paramount release stars George Clooney and preems at the Toronto Film Festival next month. Estabrook is an associate producer on the film. Reitman also produced Fox's horror comedy "Jennifer's Body," which was written by Oscar-winning "Juno" scribe Diablo Cody and stars Megan Fox. (Source Variety)
I think Reitman's a pretty cool dude, based on the work he's done so I wish him the best of luck and can't wait to see Up in The Air since it shot down here for a few days this year and Thank You For Smoking was so stellar.
