Bruno Review

This film is sheer and utter insanity, with a lot of full frontal made nudity. Bruno is all about shock value and that's exactly what he accomplishes. In the course of 96 minutes, he was able to display and create one of the most memorable and craziest pieces of art I've ever seen, because ultimately in regards to the characters he created on Da Ali G Show he has become a performance artist, his medium just happens to be film and his genre comedy.
While watching Bruno I was in awe of the lengths this man was willing to go for the sake of comedy and social commentary. While his antics aren't as polarizing as Borat's, everything was done in jest, and [his antics] certainly should not be taken seriously. I have no intention of giving away any plot points, save the one scene that resonated the most for me, which was when he went on a local Texas talk show with his baby (pictured below) that's been in all the trailers. At the end of segment Sacha's performance in it reminded me of Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood, when he's forced to testify in church and admit he's" abandoned his boy!" The fervor and passion with which both was executed was eery and brilliant, and I can't wait for the day that SBC is starring in "serious movies" (hopefully opposite DDL) and giving him his run for his $.*
Bruno is a brash, brilliant, boisterous, ballsy movie -literally and figuratively so be prepared but definitely go see it, if you have even the slightly a sick sense of humor.
My rating: 9.5/10

[*Don't believe Sacha has the chops for it, check him out in Sweeney Todd he's brilliant & actually steals scenes from Johnny Depp!]
