trailer trash- Twilight

so i haven't been posting as much this week, because i, like most people, was following the Election and subsequent win of President Elect Barack Obama. though the main reason to be perfectly and completely honest as to why i haven't been posting on the regular (thursday's were pre-drafted) is that i've been obsessively reading Stephanie Meyer's vampire-romance "Twilight." the series has sold over 17 million copies world wide and spawned a fan base that's reminiscent of that of Harry Potter.

coincidentally the film stars Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory in HP "Goblet of Fire," and the legitmately talented Kristin Stewart (who you may have caught in "Panic Room" when she was 11, or more recently in "Into The Wild,") as Edward Cullen the "unbelivably beautiful vampire" who falls in love the "incredibly clumsy human" Bella Swan. when i first saw the trailer for the film a few months ago, i was unimpressed and wondered "WTF is this POS." [which i might add is also how i felt the first time i saw the trailer for "The Matrix"...& ultimately ended up seeing 3 times in theaters.] but then Ms. Kelly lent me her copy of Twilight and i wasn't able to put it down to the point where i would have to remind myself to eat during my lunch break rather than just sit and read. the movie is directed by the eternally cool and incredibly talented Catherine Hardwicke, who also directed the heart-breaking and gut-wrenching drama "Thirteen" and "Lords of Dogtown." when "Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince" got moved from November 21st to next summer, Twilght's release was pushed forward to occupy that date and has created a frenzy and coverage like i have never seen before. i'm just hoping the film does this beloved book justice.

Presidential B-Boy Battle

i lifted this straight Frank151.com it's total schlock but mildly entertaining. it certainly takes the edge of the intense political discourse that's been going on over the past 18 months.

Jon Hamm rocks my world

Holy bejeebus his episode of SNL was everything I wanted it to be (which was basically for him to play Don Draper or a version of him in every sketch he's in) and more. I was so excited/desperate to see it I raced home after The Faint show to see it.

Congrats to Amy Poehler who wasn't on the show tonight because she was having her baby!
Speaking of babies, I want to have Seth Meyers'...in an alternate universe of course/ or in 5 years, for the time being i just be in his orbit. He's doing such a great job as head writer and am so proud of the material he's put out this year. The fact that he also has an incredibly talented ensemble to stage what he oversees helps of course, which is why alums like Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Chris Parnell and Maya Rudolph have come back.

I have to give a shout out to Will Forte because he never fails. He is amazingly brilliant and not just because he played a ROBOT TELEPHONE. And though Kristen Wiig was only in a few sketches she of course was divine.

I do have to quote from the show and share:
"Mmm I want me some Jon Hamm John Ham.

There's been a whole mess of fingers in Butts ever since... I can't wait to lick the crack in Butts."

Oh and this little band called Coldplay performed. A # of people have told me they're not into Coldplay because they think they're depressing, but I actually have always found their music incredibly powerful, really uplifting, beautiful and just plain fun because they're clearly enjoying themselves. Which may be part of the reason they got to play 3 songs over the common 2 every other band gets to do, & was totally evident when they closed the show with their 1st single "Yellow." Oh and at the very end of the song Chris Martin said "Barack Obama,"which I can only imagine was an endorsement of some sort, though he can't vote, but is clearly very very interested in the outcome.

All in all I thought it was a pretty fantastic show and possibly my most memorable episode.

even James Bond prefers Barack Obama to John McCain

In an interview with Parade Magaine Daniel Craig was asked a "deeply American question":

'Who do you think would be the better James Bond—Barack Obama or John McCain?'

Craig doesn’t hesitate. “Obama would be the better Bond because—if he’s true to his word—he’d be willing to quite literally look the enemy in the eye and go toe-to-toe with them. McCain, because of his long service and experience, would probably be a better M,” he adds, mentioning Bond’s boss, played by Dame Judi Dench. “There is, come to think of it, a kind of Judi Dench quality to McCain.”

And clearly Pierce is pro-Obama as well.

...and with that said here's the video for Another Way to Die the
theme song to Quantum of Solace .
